The International Marine Centre, IMC, is a non-profit research Foundation for training and transfer of innovation, promoted by prominent Institutions.
The IMC was founded in 1988 with the idea of creating an international marine station for developing several complementary lines of research on marine life and the environment, in order to support technological exchange and to promote research and international cooperation.
Since 1995 the IMC is an NGO (Non Governamental Organization), in the framework of the UNEP-MAP Programme.
The IMC has highly specialized laboratories, a library, acquaria, meeting rooms and lodging, and is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the west coast of Sardinia. At present, 25 researchers from several countries study marine organisms and their environment.
The IMC provides junior researchers with competitive training and the oppurtunity to collaborate with researchers at top level institutions around the world. The IMC also supports SMEs supplying technological innovation and assistance.
The Foundation is managed by an Executive Advisory committee, where as the Scientific Committee, which is composed of accomplished scientists from around the world. In its headquarter, the IMC hosts the department of CNR - IAMC Oristano Section with its own personnel.
